Super8 & Tab - Irufushi
Super8 & Tab are among the most consistent trance producers of today, with a career spanning years back into the earlier moments of Anjunabeats history. Their recent hit "Delusion" and their remix of Claessen & Schiemann's "Madness" demonstrate that the bigroom trance sound is still alive and kicking. Their latest single comes under the unique name "Irufushi" and is backed by big remixes from Ashley Wallbridge and Sean Tyas, both of which have been on a crusade of remixes as of late!
Original Mix
The original holds many similarities to their usual work but in other ways it is quite different. Incorporated in this upbeat uplifting number are quite a few electro-trance elements which is apparent pretty much from the start. Crunchy percs start us off, quickly followed by a buzzy bass pluck and offbeat plucky synths. Soon enough though the traditional Supertab flavor begins to emerge, including atmospheric pads, ride cymbals and a jp8080 supersaw. The break features sine pads and a massive, catchy lead, which is obviously expected in a Supertab production. The theme is different but it sounds great. The piano riff that emerges during the chorus is the icing on the cake. Overall a solid melodic trancer with an original feel. Super8 & Tab freshen things up; personally I prefer their full-on bigroom sound but this sound works well.
Ashley Wallbridge Remix
Ashley has quickly built a name for himself with a number of big releases and remixes on various labels including his monster collab with Andy Moor "Faces" on Ava/Armada. Much like his previous work, his remix of "Irufushi" is a storming, bassline driven number with a few uplifting moments here and there. The track wastes no time building up, incorporating the bassline and synth stabs and upping both energy and drive smoothly and efficiently. A few breaks are thrown in now and then, teasing with the original lead and theme. The buildup in the second breakdown is pretty cool, adding a lot of tension and releasing it well. If you're looking for a driving prog-house track with attitude, then look no further than this fun remix.
Sean Tyas Remix
Sean's no stranger to Anjunabeats, having remixed Tranquility Base "Oceanic" and Adam Nickey "Slider." Keeping in line with the traditional Tyas style, Sean pours in loads of energy and drive, truly making this a peaktime number. Solid percs, a rolling bassline, acid and cool vocal FX start us off, eventually joined by smooth pads and a subtle saw pluck. Criticized for his relatively standard sound years ago, Sean has really developed his own sound without discarding his uplifting nature. The break features epic flanged pads that hold the spotlight until the massive lead drops in, shortly followed by some Tyas piano. As expected, Sean delivers a massive buildup with some flange and a rolling kick with a drop at the end as a nice touch. The chorus is nothing short of huge, being packed with the lead, bassline, piano and nifty vocal effects. Massive remix that is sure to go down as a hit with the uplifting crowd.
Sean Tyas Original Remix
Added as a bonus mix, the Sean Tyas 'Original' Remix was Sean's first effort at "Irufushi" and was released due to popular demand. Focusing a bit more on atmosphere, the original remix is similar in quite a few ways to the second/final version but it boasts a prominent bassline and layers of pads throughout the song. In the chorus, the pads, piano and blip lead are the primary focus and the saw lead is no longer present. A bit laid-back overall, this one still packs a punch and is worth checking out at the very least!
Conclusion
"Irufushi" is quite a huge package and well worth looking into, if not purchasing! The Tyas mixes (being my pick of the bunch) will be a hit with the uplifting fans, original should go down well with the more modern-minded trancers and the Wallbridge mix should get a good response from the prog-heads. Definitely one of the better releases of this year. 4.5/5 stars.
