Arisen Flame- Income E.P
Updated: Tuesday 19th, January 2010
'Actuate Recordings' and 'Ocean Drive Recordings' alumni Arisen Flame makes his debut on the fast rising label Emphase Recordings with a brand new 3 original, 3 remix EP.
Income (Original Bangin' Mix):
The original mix of Income quickly shows off Arisen Flame's percussion work right off the bat. The blending of elements is well done as a nice trancey riff sets the mood for the intro of this trancer. As we approach the breakdown, we can hear the effort put into the atmosphere and the melodies floating about while a nice euphoric pad provides a nice supporting base. It's not exactly a groundbreaking tune. and not amazing, but I must say that I'm enjoying everything i hear. The build-up and drop is rather simple and not too epic. However, the melodies and composition really make this tune an enjoyable one, and a decent start to the large EP package that Emphase like to release. 3.5/5
Income (Tucandeo Remix):
Tucandeo takes a more laid back progressive approach to this tune while maintaining those trancey vibes. A warm, solid and drawn out bassline flows well with the percussion work and the piano licks add some neat character to the first phase of this rendition. The breakdown is very calm and euphoric, which is then intensified by the guitar plucks from the original which give a more suited balearic beach feel before bouncing back all the pads and bass are given their time to shine together when the beat comes back in. Fans of the progressive and balearic style trance will definitely appreciate this one, along with those who love a good euphoria. Cool remix from Tucandeo. 4/5
Income (Matt Skyer Remix):
Recent Armin favorite Matt Skyer is on remix duties as well. He kicks off this version with a very familiar and undisguised loop, which I can forgive because he adds a nice faster paced bassline and throws in some techy FX in there. Skyer has a history of indulging both his tech and uplifting trance sides in his productions, and this remix is no exception. He takes a distinct tech trance focus while bringing in the uplifting elements in the atmospheric, and almost cinematic, breakdown. That sweet guitar-like instrument from the original chills out the listener before he throws in an uplifting style lead. The big build ends in modern tech trance fashion as he drops the beat and an electro tinged bass to rip up possible dancefloors until he hits it full on with the rest of the percussion line and more techy sounds. It's a cool remix and I really like it. 4.5/5
Income (Kaimo K Remix):
Kaimo K returns to Emphase remix duties again for this EP. Kaimo has taken a more uplifting approach for his remix. The intro is a typical uplifting intro, generic as some people might say. Not too much happens in it up until the breakdown when he brings in the guitar sound from the original and the melodies. I like the lead in this one however, and the climax is decent. However, I'm not really impressed by it. It didn't really stand out for me. It's composed well and the quality is decent, but it's not very special. 2/5
Find You:
The second original in this EP is a nice chunk of melodic trance. Like Income, the percussion work in Find You is really good. The bassline is very well done and the acids/drones surrounding it are also really cool. Arisen Flames adds a dose of cool plucks and synth riffs into the background. The transition to the breakdown is very well done and rather different. A big techy lead really blares out in this breakdown for awhile as Arisen Flame brings a big saw lead and all the other elements in for a cool filtering buildup and then takes off in full force. The mood in this one is a little darker than Income, but only to a small degree. This tune is good as well, though it's not as good as I would have hoped, but it's worth a listen. 3/5
Mixed Feelings:
Rounding off this EP is a third original from Arisen Flame. This one is possibly my favorite off this EP. Solid percussion and a cool bassline drive this track from the get-go until AF brings in these really massive pads that bring this track to a different dimension than the others in this package. The mood is much darker, and really epic. The breakdown is even darker as he varies the chords. They die down to let a guitarish instrument out of the box with an emotional melody to lead into the supersaw lead that comes to buildup. When it drops, there's nothing better. These melancholy pads and a wonderful supersaw lead. and all these other well placed elements just work so good together. This tune is really great in my opinion, good for those who love epic and euphoric tunes, as well as those who like fuller sounding trance tracks. However i docked half a point because the production quality itself seems to be lacking a little. 4.5/5
Overall:
This release is one of the first i have listened to from Emphase, and I am well impressed with the main artist Arisen Flame because this artist is the star of the EP for me. My favorite tune of the EP is Mixed Feelings by far. However, I feel bad because I personally like tunes with a darker mood like this, so it seems as if I could be a little biased. However, the EP itself is good as a whole, but the overall quality has room for some real improvement. I recommend it though. 3/5
