Mirco de Govia - Chronoscale
Mirco de Govia has over the past few years delivered extraordinary productions and remixes, licensed to an uncountable number of compilations and labels. Now his long-awaited debut album is out, and there’s no excuse for not having a serious go.
All through the album Mirco de Govia shows the same class as seen his previous singles (all included). Uplifting is the least to say, but the album holds other qualities as well.
01. Dayturn
For those of you who miss what Nick Bracegirdle pulled off with his first two Chicane-albums, don’t despair. The very first track of Chronoscale pulls off with a Chicane-branded sound, leaving your mind to make up whatever warm mental pictures it may come across. Halfway through Mirco de Govia gently fades in his bright strings, giving a aural match that can’t be described with words.
03. Metatalk
For all people expecting 74 minutes ‘Things that matter’ has underestimated Mirco de Govia’s wide diversity and knowledge in electronic dance musoc. Reminiscing to Robert Miles’ “Organik” album this track is as mysterious as its title. The less movement you have in a production, the more interesting every move has to be. Even thou ‘Metatalk’ is more than 4.30 minutes long, rather dull and very still it still finds it place on Mirco’s album. If you ever find yourself in your mate’s sofa 5AM on a Saturday morning with Röyksopp’s ’40 years back’ on repeat it’s time you added another track to that loop.
05. Voller Sterne
Even thou some of you might not understand German, music is our universal language which through you can communicate feelings and emotions. ‘Voller Sterne’ tells a very interesting story, summing up a great deal what this album probably represents. It’s a clash between laid-back house and melodic trance, taking an interesting path from one to the other leaving a solid proof that it’s all related. A very exciting and emotional journey through Mirco de Govia’s landscape of electronic dance music.
08. Wearing The Fear
With ‘Wearing The Fear’ Mirco de Govia takes on a very unexpected approach, with a production far from our dance floors or chill out lounges. With a taste of angst and depression mixed with mystique this dark track has tweaked sweeping strings and a deep melody not suitable to be played if you’re on the top of the world for once.
10. Mindspring
Up until today Mirco de Govia has been known for amazing productions and breathtaking remixes, so it’s only fair that he besides recent singles and the newfound diverse tracks brings us more of the dance floor minded material. ‘Mindspring’ has the tempo, the structure and break to stir up deep emotions on the dance floor. After it’s wavy break Mirco fills in with an amazing ride sided by twirled chord changes that really makes your body go warm. This piece is one of the absolutely best epic tunes heard this year.
This isn’t trance, house or down-tempo. This is electronic dance music, at its very best. Mirco de Govia has managed to sample all possible styles and niche artists to combine them in a most extraordinary way. Pick up this album, play it and enjoy the very diverse yet branded journey that Mirco de Govia has set out for you. This is the artist album of the year, no doubt about that, it’s a monumental achievement from a producer that no longer will be remembered for a few tracks and remixes, but for his ongoing career as one of the scene’s absolutely most inspiring and exciting producers.
