Plummet - Damaged

When the first greater waves of trance hit USA the major DJs had to play tunes that were classics or outdate in Europe as the States were so behind. But Plummet ‘Damaged’ that was released in May 2001 in the States proves that the equation works the other way too. Just lately British top jocks like Pete Tong and Judge Jules have been canning this bomb in it’s new Antillas-shape, almost two years after the original single came out on Nebulous in USA and sold 800 000 copies in just one month. Now the collaboration between Eric Muniz (DJ X) and vocalist Nikki finally has hit Europe shores on labels such as Captivating (NL), Motivo (IT) and Serious (UK) featuring new remixes from Antillas Neo & Farina, Artica plus the two years old Ford remix from Robin Fox.

Today’s re-interpretation that on Captivating comes in new Antillas and Arctica shapes have dusted off the two-year-old anthem and caused a major hype the past two months. The Antillas remix have been hammered and with it’s persuasive, catchy and beautiful vocals it is no surprise if this anthem makes it all the way into the trance’s hall of fame as a given classic.

The energy and smooth production creates an atmosphere that knows no boundaries and with the vocals as a delicate topping the majestic and every so breezy retro-trip that the Antillas remix give in on revive hope in that 2003 (even though this is a re-release) will see the turn that will take the scene back to what it was. With it’s original and trancey twirl plus the clubby bass-line the first two minutes is a dream come true to club DJs that want to make a smooth transition. At the end of a break, just half-way through the production, the vocals kick in and build up an emotional bomb that explode into a massive anthem that shine of happiness. There’s no doubt that this is one of this years strongest vocal productions and will surely stay with us for quite some time!

On the flip we find the more reserved but banging Arctica remix that has been pushed a bit into the shadow of the huge success that the clubby Antillas remix has brought to the release. Blending it’s industrial elements with the melodic lead and the beautiful vocals does work, but however not stand a chance against the epic piece of production the Antillas Remix sees.

When Judge Jules play a tune week after week it’s not because he likes it, it’s because he adores it. And pretty much everybody else that have got this tune force-fed seem to have enjoyed it more than the occasional anthem. The UK release is just around the corner and be sure that it will just push this anthem even further up the charts. If you’re into vocal trance Antillas remix is a flawless winner!
