Native & Silver feat. Ani - The Dome
Updated: Tuesday 24th, July 2007
Native, Silver or Ani are names that mean nothing to me and Swordtail is a new record label to my ears too, hailing from Australia, so I approached this release with some intrigue. Being a fan of progressive sounds I was pleasantly surprised by what I found.
The Original Mix is a mesmirizing blend of gorgeous, hypnotic vocals that float over tribal drums, deep, throbbing basslines and glistening melodies. The lyrics are barely distinguishable yet Ani has a wonderful voice that really draws you in, in a tempting, seductive, sexually charged production.
Trafik twist things right around with their remix, adding awesome guitar riffs, twisted FX in a rocking and squelchy electro-influenced production, underpinned by those dreamy vocals. At nine minutes it does drag a little but is still a dirty, gritty dancefloor rocking production.
Next up is Russian duo 4mal who have really caught my attention recently with some stunning productions, in fact Russia is becoming my favourite country for original sounding progressive music, even beating the mighty Greeks. Here they don’t disappoint with the lushest of lush productions with a spine-tingling intro that works the vocals to their full potential. Gentle synths massage your soul before a funked-up bassline bursts into the production, building and building as a sweet melody cuts right through into a tranced-out break before storming back in with that thumping bassline. Superb remix.
FCD Code turn it into a bouncy minimal oddity guided by smooth pads with the vocal cut up to good effect. The remix doesn’t seem to know whether it is aimed at the dancefloor or the sofa – it could work in a very deep house set, but it’s not really my thing.
Conclusion
A fine release from this Australian label that prog fans should find plenty to enjoy in the four mixes. For me, the 4mal mix stands out with its superb intro and lush trance atmospherics - these Russians are really doing it for me right now. The original is worth a look too, deeply hypnotic and sensual, an excellent vocal track. Trafik’s mix is the most dancefloor orientated while FCD Code will appeal to deep house heads. Top stuff.

Original Mix 8:03
Trafik’s Remix 9:10
4mal’s Sub Flowing Remix 8:54
FCD Code Remix 6:42
