Markus Schulz - Toronto 09 out Monday!

Artists: Out March 9th is Markus Schulz’s annual compilation series taking a snapshot of how his DJ sets typically sound, with the source of inspiration this time being one of the most influential clubbing conglomerates worldwide; Toronto, Canada. Read on for more info!

Having completed his most extensive annual tour itinerary in 2008, playing at the world’s biggest clubs, arenas and festivals in the process, one could be forgiven for assuming that Markus’ choice of city to represent the 2009 chapter in his CD series would be a difficult one. For Markus however, the decision was quite simple.

“Some of my best gigs over the last few years have been in Toronto,” says Markus. “The world famous Guvernment complex is incredible and a huge inspiration. It has everything - intimate, knowledgeable fans in a big room setting. I like to have each instalment of my CD series be inspired by different things and Toronto inspires a vibe that I am very pleased to share with the world.”

The ethos of this compilation series has remained integral since its conception - and that is the process of Markus working closely with every producer that contributes a track towards the project, with the objective of establishing a sound which encompasses the mood of the CD, and the chosen city. Many of the names which feature are already well recognised by Coldharbour Recordings followers and regular Global DJ Broadcast listeners.

However, to add his personal touch in terms of a production capacity, Markus himself dedicated a substantial amount of time in the studio during the winter period. The result is 2 brand new tracks produced under his Dakota alias, a name which will be familiar to followers of the Bedrock and Global Underground compilations at the beginning of the decade. The tracks are entitled Sin City and Koolhaus, the latter named as a tribute to the special events area inside The Guvernment complex, which Markus describes as “a privilege to play and perform”. With a full album in the works, there will be much more to come from Dakota as the year progresses.

Disc 1 is best described as a journey that builds over time, beginning with dark and slowly layered sounds that can only be discovered and appreciated with more than one listen. Disc 2 moves towards more frequent big room moments, with his trademark basslines and euphoric melodies. Overall, the compilation is a reflection of Markus’ extended sets in Toronto, and it is only appropriate that his next appearance in the city is only a matter of weeks away. The official Toronto ’09 release party takes place at the Guvernment on Saturday March 21st.

Toronto ’09 will be available to purchase on CD and through all digital download portals from Monday March 9th.
