2. What about all those links in the "ID that tune" section? Aren't these download links to copyright protected material?

those links contain mostly 30sec low quality samples...

1. What will you do if a user posts a link to a 400MB zip archive, simply saying that it is his latest set. You can not know what the zip archive contains, maybe it is just free music, or just his own tracks. Is this a violation of the rules?

In the past topics like that have been locked, also when a mix contained tunes made by the topic poster himself. I believe there are 1 or 2 users who are doing this, they both got in touch with us and now they post their mixes again and write (which we asked them) to put a note that all tracks are made by them, so it's fine.

What Webman said. If it's a full file there is a chance the topic will get locked though.

i bet it's also commercially benificial. t.nu keeps the big labels and dj's happy, so the big players will be more interested in commercial participations with t.nu. like asot's tune of the week, competitions, own room at TE etc.

That's also a very important reason, many labels and artists are visiting this site. They give us exclusive news, they buy banners etc, which helps us to keep the servers running, so our users can use this website for free.

Some people seem to forget that you can all use this website for free. Trance.nu is run by people who do this for free in their spare time, just because they love music. Sometimes I think that people should think about that a bit more wink

Sorry for going MIA.

As a few of the people have already mentioned you can easily record a stream link. This is not 1990. You need to have rules that make sense and are up to date.

I understand you are saying that this forum is offered for free, but seriously bro, which forum isn't? lol I mean I frequent several forums on which major producers and DJ's have accounts, but they're all free!! To be very frank I don't know a single forum that requires its users to pay for membership. That's just ridiculous. If you have a forum up don't brag about it being free and stuff. Man, this is basic Internet stuff..

Again, I respect your rules, but I think they are outdated. As a user of your forum I am allowed to voice my opinion -no? And you aren't giving me a proper answer as to why you are allowing HQ stream links to brand new tracks on here but not allowing mix sets. I mean a mix set is actually considered a free form of publication for the artists!! Who wouldn't want that? And in a set you don't play the entire track, it's usually 2-4 minutes of it (not to mention that it's usually off-key or played at a different BPM). So even if you download it you don't have the original tracks.

Btw I must say that I appreciate Twan's participation in this discussion. He is obviously just a mod and has not set the rules but I hope to hear something from Tommie or whoever came up with these rules happy These are all man-made rules and not written on the stone; they should change if there's a reasonable argument against them.

Finally let me add that we all love t.nu and I think we've got a bunch of great people on here, that's why I'm not very keen on following Twan's suggestion "if you don't like the rules you can leave". Instead I'm trying to convince you that your rules are outdated happy

P.S> Yes I did have the download option available to my set -and I still have it available.

Our rules are up to date and we have no intention of changing them at this time. Thanks for the sane discussion though, but we're happy with the rules we got.

I've highlighted the important part of Rule 2, which basically explains the entire rule. If you have the explicit right from each individual copyright-holder to redistribute their music (mixed, remixed or unmixed) feel free to post them on trance.nu - if you don't, then don't post.

Quote:
2 - We don't allow ANY kind of illegal mp3 discussion on this board/site. This includes requesting illegal mp3 files, publishing live sets, radioshows, home made mixes, downloadable podcasts (unless you have proper redistribution rights) and posting compilations containing copyrighted tunes.

I'll lock this topic now to avoid any further misinterpretation of our rules.
