and as a producer, your thinking "yea, im feeling this, going to go home and crank out some great ideas" Go home and launch up the DAW and nothing, all that creative hype dissipates like a tire gone flat. Anyone share this type of downer?

*chortles*, not I, my songs in fact are so not the standard, that when i get in the middle of them, they stump me, or a re-listen to what i have to much and disinterest myself.

You're hearing an awesome sounding finished production, while you're starting off with blank sheets, which of course sounds inferior, thus making you demotivated. I try listening to as little music as possible before making music myself.

Well ofcourse you can get some real crazy ideas from the music on party's...
But for myself I get the real great idea's while listening to classical music...
But then... yeah getting it from the head on the screen... is killing.

Funny you should say that... I've had that problem for the past 12 months, then today I actually had a breakthrough!

I always get fantastic ideas. It just happens when i'm not around my laptop. How I work my way around this is that I "hum" the melody into my mobile phone, and record it as a midi or a project when I get home happy

PS: it might sound weird at times, but it does the trick just fine :P

I actually thought of that to... but it just seemed in my head that men in white coats would throw me in their bus to bring me to their asylum haha...

Or in any case, a lot of people would look at me crazy.

Though the editing as MIDI is in fact new to me... if it works.

direct recording is the answer. for instance, I wistle melodies into my phone, or make a quick rithm in midi with a lousy drumcomputer in my laptop

when i get home i work out the ideas in my studio
