I'm finding dead ends everywhere I look so hopefully this thread will set me straight so I don't make any regrettable purchases.

I'm building a home based studio with the intention of creating album quality trance tracks. Here's what I have:

Macbook Pro 4GB
2 KRK Rokit 6's, running with Audio 8 from my DJ setup
Ableton Live
Akai APC40
61 Key midi controller
Sylenth1
Nexus
A very comfortable chair

Here is what I want:

Apogee Duet
Nord Lead 2X or Virus TI
Omnisphere (maybe)

Am I headed in the right direction? I'm looking for some personalized advisement on different routes I should take to have equipment that will keep up with todays sound.

I have the Duet and I'm loving it! Totally integrated with mac os. I'd want some more inputs though unhappy

I think you are going in the right direction happy

Yeah I like the differences the lead offers, and overall I'm just attracted to it. The Duet looks sexy, and from what I've seen it performs amazingly.

I forgot to add in there that I'll be buying a mic as well, but I haven't even scoped those out yet.

For me, three additional VST's which I could not live without:

G-Force Minimonsta
Rob Papen - Predator
Novation - V-station

It's a tough cookie between the nord-lead and the Ti. I think if you are 'building' a new studio, consider the placement of your monitors as being one of the most important aspects. Maybe buy dedicated monitor stands and foam sound absorption where possible.

Good luck

well you already got Sylenth1 and Nexus so that should take care of your subtractive synthesis needs.
I agree with getting omnisphere (which is a very versatile synth) and then you'll have some money left over to buy some kick ass samples.

or if you wanna save even more money you can always go get Camel Audio's Alchemy synthesizer. It's only $125 right now which is 50% of the original price. Heard that thing is a beast.

I finally have the equipment rolling in now. I ordered the Saffire Pro 40 interface and I just ordered yesterday a Virus Ti2 Polar. Super stoked, I can't wait!

I don't think you can go far wrong with the Ti.

Does the Ti polar come in both key and rackmount models? Id so which one did you get?

The polar is the same as the rack, except it has keys.

I thought the polar was purely a special edition in white??

Correct me if I am wrong, but there is no substatantive difference in the Ti and Polar models apart from colour? the key element is irrelevant in my view - it's the synthesiser engine.

@Alx It's just the casing and LED's that are different. There was a limited run of "whiteout edition" Virus Ti2 series synths made that had the desktop, and Ti2 61 note keyboard in all white with white LED's. The engine is identical to the desktop, and 61 note Virus Ti's. The only Virus in the Ti range that is different is the Snow with slightly less polyphony and 4 knobs as opposed to multiple knobs wink
