Hi guys,

I'm rather new to producing and therefore still trying to learn lots of stuff.
What I'm currently doing is: Load a track into Ableton (my DAW) and try to rebuild it as good as I can (not necessarily every note, but rather the sound of it).

So here's what I've done so far:
http://www.box.net/shared/hjx24rg2gg
are my first 2 Minutes of this beautiful track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhVp-fYvlIw&feature=related

But I feel my song sounds so empty, like there's a lot of stuff still missing. And that's where I need your feedback: What is missing there? I know that the vocal sample is missing yet, but that can't be all I guess wink

your arp sounds like if it's in a different key?

Tone down your clap a little it's to bright.

Your using a clap
On the youtube one a snare drum is used

Snares give more punch and are less bright
Next to that you hear a percursion on top of the 2nd clap-snare point
That lil percusive thingy in the back of the sound gives the snare-clap tyming a groove
1;27 you hear it almost solo in the youtube original song that you want to copy

That part you need cos it caries the music in that swing , groove
It's asif that sound lifts up the 2nd snare, clap hit
And that gives the whole repeating 4 bar loop its drive wink

Never tried abelton
But its like on Logic
Automatic sequencer Quantize puts the percussion at lets say 48
If you use groove Q then the 48 position gets moved to lets say 61

You can use Q swing on that one note to put in a typical swing tying
But you can also move the percussive tone off the auto grid by hand
Experiment a lil with it i'd say if you never tried it

Thank you guys so far.
I did a few changes (Links in the original posts are changed):
- Changed the clap into a snare (I actually wondered all the time why I couldn't find a fitting clap sound - never thought of it beeing a snare)
- Did that klacky percssion thing and put a little bit of triplet feel onto it. Ableton has a pretty cool groove function as well wink

@WarrenK: Every note in the song is in C major so far, the arp sound as well. I'm not 100%sure whether its the scale of the original song cuz I just judged by ear and have no real experience in recognizing scales

@Arey: The pad is made of 2 layered Sylenth1 instances
