Robert Miles-Children (Dream Version)
What can I say, classic trance at its best. Beautiful piano and guitar and a great message behind it.
Barthezz-On The Move (Original Mix)
An unbelievable tune. So much energy it's ridiculous. Great melody, I cream my jeans everytime I hear it
Marc Aurel-The Sun (Dominator Remix)
Beautiful vocals and sick techy section before a massive breakdown and enormous drop that unleashes probably my favorite melody of all time with a huge kick. Probably my favorite of all time.
Vincent De Moor-Fly Away (Original Mix)
Classic, beautiful melody.
The Thrillseekers-Synaesthesia (En-Motion Remix)
Classic, beautiful melody.
Honorable mention:
Stereoshaker-Rock and Roll (Original Mix)
Amazing well constructed buildup and huge uplifting melody. I had a spiritual experience while listening to this tune and I will never forget it.
Oh and Gouryella-Gouryella : |

These 5 tracks are what really got me into edm. There are lots of other great tracks but these are the most memorable to me and probably the ones i have listened to the most.
robert miles-children
probably the first piece of trance i ever heard. I remember hearing it late at night on a much music(canadian mtv) and fell in love with it. I didn't hear it again for a few years but when i did it was played nonstop.
ayla-ayla
just a classic. doesn't really do it for me today but loved this song b4
solarstone-solarcoaster
i remember hearing this song the 2nd time i went raving and it gave me the chills. To this day this song is still magic to me.
oceanlab-satellite
I used to listen to it non stop.
paul van dyk-another way
This is my favorite of pvd's tracks.Even today it takes me to another place.

guns 'n roses - welcome to the jungle (1987)
i remember when i heard the opening track to this explosive cd "welcome to the jungle," i was completely blown away. the energy that this track provided for the album was amazing, i used to go crazy, and still do for this song.
michael jackson - thriller (1982)
i heard this in the car when my dad was driving me to school once, and absolutely loved it. couple of days later i saw the video and it haunted me for days. still, what a great song.
robert miles - children (1995)
this was my first exposure to any sort of electronic dance music, and i loved it. i heard it around 1997 and it definitely sent chills down my back. this is what got me into trance.
william orbit - barber's adagio for strings (ferry corsten remix) (1999)
what a classic, definitely sent chills down my back. this is the track that made me go out looking for more trance music.
daft punk - around the world (1996)
i heard this track on mtv partyzone, and this was the first track that got me into house music, and ever since i've been following these guys, they are simply awesome. |

In importance order:
1) Gregorian - Join Me (milestone: 2006)
This is the most beautiful vocal record I ever heard. Some person and important event are closely concerned with it. Perhaps, one of the few tracks that can make me cry. Ultimate masterpiece.
2) Zhi-Vago - Celebrate The Love (milestone: 1996)
My childhood is all in this song. I remember I was searching for it for almost 10 years to dig the name and it was only 2006 when I finally discovered it. These pianos are fantastic.
3) Scooter - No Fate ; Time and Space (milestone: 1997)
Actually, these ones were my favourite Scooter tracks like 10 years ago. While major crowd was crushing on 'How Much Is The Fish?' I always found utterly ridiculous, I was a great fan of more deep and intelligent sound observed in the above songs. This is probably where my trance story started.
4) Andy Ling - Calling Angels (Seth Vogt Breaks 2003 Remix) (milestone: 2003)
Although my edm story started earlier than that, this huge progressive breaks remix of 1996 classic didn't give me relax yet then. Incredible tune and huge influence; the tune, which I never mention in any of my toplists, probably because it's above them all.
5) Airwave - Escape From Nowhere (milestone: 2001)
Hexfire's official trance story launcher. This is where it started for me and there was no way back. Also, first official "favourite trance tune". First major trance influence.
Bonus:
Karunesh - The Inner Temple
Innate - Changes (Ambient Mix)
Vangelis - Fields Of Coral
Joni pres. External Art - We Forget (Original / Will B Overdrive Remix)
MK-S - Illuminate
Incolumis - Tsunami
Above & Beyond - Indonesia ; Home |

The Verve- Bittersweet Symphony-
Not trance, but I love that song so much. I'd say that when it comes down to it, this is my favorite song of all.
Darude-Sandstorm
The song that got me into EDM. In a way, it's kind of like "the big bang" for me.
Orbital- Halcyon
My favorite trance track. Just a masterpiece.
The Crest- Heart-Shaped Box
Finally, a really good hip hop song about the rappers showing their love for the genre. By far my favorite hip hop song to this date.
Grits- My Life Be like (Ooh Aah)
Another hip hop song that just gave me hope. |

2. Blink 182 - Enema of the State
3. Thievery Corporation - The Cosmic Game
4. Angels & Airwaves - We Don't Need to Whisper
5. Thievery Corporation - Richest Man In Babylon / Blink 182 - TOYPAJ |

Haha Hexfire I would never expect to get mentioned in this topic
I've managed to break my list down into 5 albums and 5 singles, because it's just too difficult to take it any lower than that.
Albums:
1. The Prodigy - Fat Of The Land (1997)
http://www.discogs.com/release/2718
Is this the most important EDM album of all time? Every track on there is classic, and without this album I'd probably have avoided being in the mess I'm in now. I love it and still play it at least once a week.
2. Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (1995)
http://www.discogs.com/release/442666
For me this is Oasis' best album, and one that reminds me of being 10 and long summers that went on forever.
3. Trance Nation 2 mixed by System F (1999)
http://www.discogs.com/release/36112
Full of classics, the mix that really dragged me into trance music and still sounds so fresh.
4. Hybrid - Wider Angle (2000)
http://www.discogs.com/release/27821
Before I heard this CD I only knew a couple of Hybrid tunes. This is, however, probably my favourite album of all time.
5. The Chemical Brothers - Surrender (1999)
Probably not the best Chemical Brothers album (Exit Planet Dust is better IMO) but still awesome, and this was one of the first albums I remember buying.
Singles:
1. Faithless - Insomnia (1995)
http://www.discogs.com/release/186815
One of those tracks that made me sit up and take notice. I was only 10 at the time, and this was something that made me think that dance music could be interesting and exciting.
2. William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix) (1999)
http://www.discogs.com/release/22758
The best trance track ever made. It's perfect.
3. Sash! - Encore Une Fois (1997)
http://www.discogs.com/release/7016
Sash! may be cheesy europop but they were one of the acts that got me into trance music. Encore Une Fois was my favourite tune for months on end when it first came out.
4. Warrior - Warrior (2000)
http://www.discogs.com/release/126360
Probably not going to hit most people's top 100 good tunes, and to be honest might not hit mine. However, it's got sentimental value and always makes me smile when I hear it.
5. Robert Miles - Children (1996)
http://www.discogs.com/release/83819
Another one of those tracks that got me into the mess I'm in now. Still one of the best melodies ever made, and despite its simplicity in production it's thousands of times better than anything made today. |

Robert Miles - Children and Chicane - Saltwater
Pointless to explain this, these are possibly the granddaddies of classics
William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Track that convinced me that there is a whole lot more music like Children and Saltwater out there. This took my into trance.
Solarstone - Solarcoaster (Original Mix)
The following three records mean a lot to me emotionaly. Solarcoaster is one of the most touching songs I've heard and it remembers me of a special time in my life.
Zenon ft. Erire - September Rain (Bobina Original Vox)
The vocals of this one, combined with the outstanding melody had such a big impact one me. It's like someone felt the same desperation I felt when I first heard it. Took me through some really rough times.
Above and Beyond - Can't Sleep
Same story here almost. The lyrics came so close to my heart. it was like Ashley Tomberlin knew exactly how to describe my thoughts. Helped me a lot to get over a broken relationship. Original mix and Sonorous remix come closets to how this track should be done. However I still wait for a more emotional remix.
So many to name still, but these are the most important ones I can think of right now. |
