With that said, I think it's kind of sad that a certain kind of kick drum can represent a label puh

Was thinking the same thing puh

Julien... Thanks for such a helpful tutorial. Whether I use it or not is was very nice of you to take the time to share and contribute something to help others out. thumbsup

As for all those people bashing Julien....if you dont like the kick then dont use it. There is no need to put the guy down for helping others out who might really like that style of kick. Bottom line is he contributed a nice tutorial. How bout instead of bashing him and talking about why you dont like it do something constuctive like post a tutorial on how to create the kicks you do like ???

well i'm sorry that i acted immature..
but the point was imo VEC kicks are already good enough without doing anything else for them. and why wouldn't they as many of them have been sampled from professional tracks. so if a person has already bought an expensive sample cd he doesn't really need a tutorial anymore. but the people who don't have the cd do..

I would never waste my time creating a kick from scratch, hence the quick know-how on this particular kick.

The point isn't to make a specific kind of kick, but giving an example of layering put to use.

Exactly you can put the ideas to use to make your own kick, or w/e you are going for, isnt that the point of a tutorial?

Wouldn't it have been easier to just say layer a few bassdrums over each other? That's all you had to say

i read this thread some times but i was lazy to recreate the kick, i made it here in my pc with ableton and drum racks and it worked...

well, now i ve some doubts about layering...

- how to eliminate the clicks?
- how to merge the kicks properly so we think there s one kick (this is proper layering heheh)
- i was trying layering with a "brute" approach: just low passing the sub kick at 80 hz and high passing at 80 hz for the non kick sub, and i was trying add other kick high passing 150 hz...
i know is not about numbers, but is this way correct, using filters when layering?

help me please happy

Create your kicks from scratch using something like Adobe Audition, soundforge etd, then you have 100% full control over the pitch etc which makes it nice and easy to tune it to your bass and vice versa.

Bashing doesn't belong in Trance.nu. There are many other music production forums for that.

The link is dead, but I like clicky kicks. They go with a certain type of sound.

Layering is a great craft to learn, whether you need it or not. It helps you become a more articulate producer.
