This isn't meant to sound big headed in any way but, after several years of DJ'ing, i don't have to battle nerves.

I never have more than one pint of lager when i play, from a proffesional view its good to stay sober, especially if someones paying you. If its your club/venue, do as you please. I once did a houseparty full of friends, got smashed on vodka and still managed to mix.

Each to their own i suppose. cheers

That's cool SuperTed. I drink just cuz A. I like beer, and B. To have fun but I never get trashed because I get deaf when Im trashed and can't hear the kick lol.

Weed is a different story though, but even that I have to be careful cuz I'm bound to making a stupid mistake (like hitting CUE or eject on the wrong deck) so I have to be a bit careful and never hit any time sensitive buttons without careful consideration, lol. When I feel a bit tipsy during a set, I make sure that I always have eject lock on, due to a bad experience with this button. hehehe...

Other than that I spin 80% sober all the time. That is a perfect balance for me between fun and work, especially if the place is giving me free drinks there is no way I will not drink. It's FREE!

If you can do it, do it. If you can't, don't. Simple really.

If it's a big gig then I'll probably have a couple, and then wait till after. If it's a small venue and/or not busy I'll have a few more.

At any rate it doesn't really affect me mixing wise as I wouldn't get to the point where it would. Everyone knows their limits.

Afterwards is a different matter entirely lol

depends on which genre you tend to mix

for scouse house and fagcore, yes, drink

for trance, inhale on a personal mixture of fairy dropping jenkem and angeldust spliced with whatever else you choose!

for dubstep you drink blood

for ambient you take ambien

for prog you drink hemlock

1. It's bad business...this is your place of employment and your occupation, have a little self control and respect.

2. Obviously it can impair your ability to do your job properly

3. The crowd wouldn't appreciate it. The clientele of an upscale nightclub are far different from a punk rock gig. If you're stumbling and drooling around up there you'll lose control of them very easily, especially if they don't already know you.

ding ding. Couldn't have said it better. The ones who really take it serious and as a profession treat it as their business environment.

so to that heres the perfect response to the question "do you shit where you eat?" After I'm done playing and ready to loosen up and have a good time absolutely. Although, I never drink to get drunk in the first place.. especially if I'm working.

yep!
