I´m recording a bassline from the virus C to audio:
I have tried to do that with 32 bit instead of using the standard 24 bit.
My opinion is that the sound quality of the bassline is better with
32 than 24. I´m not saying that it gets better than the sound from
my synth that runs in MIDI, but the audio sounds better after recording
in 32 bit. When i record in 24 bit, it seems like the audio are losing
quality a little. Is this just my imagination or is 32 bit better to use?
Have anyone of you tried this? |

yep 32 is a bit better(no pun intended:P), most "pros" use 32bit if their computers can handle it.. if not 24 is fine most ppl cant tell the difference :)
edit for typo :X |

yeh 32 is better than 24. but there's isn't an actual 32 bit processing. it 24 bit(float), which is almost the aqivalant of 32. 24bit with a little extra. to be honest there is very little difference between the two and havin to mix down audio all the time you tend to forget about bit rates and get the job donw. in my opinion i'd stick with 24, coz technology ain't up to level to appriciate 32 bit rate yet. |

Too bad vinyl and audiocd only handle 16 bit... |
vinyl isn't digital, it doesn't have a bit rate |

Let's just hope all your percussion is also in 32 bit
I find working in 16bit/44.1khz fine. |

But it has a limited storing capacity of dynamic that is comparable to 16 bit. What I wanted to say is that alot of people concern about high bitrates for no reason, when the tracks are converted anyway before pressed. |

What setup do you have that allows you to record in 32 bits? |

Well, I don't know any audio interfaces or sound cards that support 32 bit recording.
There's really no point for it since the human ear can't distinguish a quality greater than 24 bits, and in most cases even 16 bits is acceptable as the final medium. The trick is the use more bits for processing data (i.e. software typically features 32 or 64 bit float internal processing), but at the end of the day, the signal still has to be output in 24 or 16 bits.
Anyway, my point is that I don't believe any recording hardware (unless uber pro maybe) these days supports higher than 24 bit recording, and there really isn't much point to go higher than that as you won't hear the different between 24 and 32 bit anyway. So, yes, it is just your imagination that recording in 32 bit is better, as the output of your hardware is most likely at most 24 bit anyway. |

I´m not saying that 32 bit makes the sound better than what I hear in
MIDI, but that 32 bit retains the quality of the sound exactly the same
sound that I hear in MIDI from the synth when converting to cubase wav.
When I record in 24 bit, the audio lose quality just a little,
especially low frequency sounds. |

| Virus C has a 24bit DAC. So you are imaginating things. |
