I work 10 hours, get home, spin for 3-4, then usually burn some cd's for friends/myself, upload stuff to my website, and crash.

I think, DJ have to had passion and obsession for music, from heart.
It's stupid when people think about and start "DJ'ing" only because "to be a DJ".

If you are playing trance because of DJ Mag Top 100 poll's top 10, you are going wrong...
If you are playing only biggest radiohits, that you don't really like, you are going wrong...
If you are in gig playing for yoursefl, you are going wrong...
If you are DJ'ing only because of that "one day I will be number one DJ in the world and running biggest label and playing music, (that someone else produces), but you are putting your name on it, you ARE going really wrong happy
Etc...

If you are any good, really, you will get gigs and word will spread. eureka! idea

Sorry, if I let you down! But practise, learn and jam!
Remember the obsession and love for Dance music and DJ'ing!
Peace happy

This really is a pretty stupid question to tell you the truth...The best way to go is to practice and practice and practice as much as you need to until you're where you feel you want to be, but you don't want to burn yourself out on it before you even really get started, there is such a thing as overload. Just go at your own pace and do whatever you demand of yourself...did you really need a forum topic to figure that out? uhm_positive

I like Halcyon_Raves' response.
If you really do enjoy it, you wouldn't need to ask that question.
Just be confident and if you make a mistake while performing, keep it to yourself and get it right.

I think you should save your money and time and not bother with DJing.

if you enjoy it, then you wouldnt need to ask this question.. thats cos you'll be spending as much time as humanly possible behind the decks trying to better yourself! why do you need other people to tell you how to go about with your favourite activity? fark, do you also require detailed guidance on how to do a shit, or how to farken wank the fark off ffs? up

Not everyone has the time to get into producing. Alot of DJing is track selection, if you are already a die hard music fan this should not be hard. So after that its just mixing (most of the practice) and equipment (most of the money lol).

I got a complete DJ setup good enough to rock a decent sized house party for $1000, two 12" 500 watt active speakers, usb vdj controller, usb mixer, nice pair of headphones, and my old laptop(not included in price). It really is not that epensive, and most everything you buy has a use outside of DJing.
